Cross country teams host Comet Open
The Olivet College men’s and women’s cross country teams began the 2017 season by hosting the Comet Open at the Broadway Acres Golf Course in nearby Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's cross country teams began the 2017 season by hosting the Comet Open at the Broadway Acres Golf Course in nearby Charlotte.
THE BASICS
Location: Broadway Acres Golf Course; Charlotte, Mich.
FOR THE COMET MEN (5K RUN)
- Senior Bruce Baker took first-place with a time of 15:32.
- Junior Mark Smith placed sixth with a time of 16:24.
- Freshman Jaden Costa completed the race in 17:47.
- Freshman Dewan Hawthorne and sophomore James Thurman were separated by only two seconds at 18:25 and 18:27, respectively.
FOR THE COMET WOMEN (5K RUN)
- Senior Nicole Zerfas finished in fourth-place overall, second among NCAA DIII runners, with a time of 20:01.
- Senior Abigail Gaines was 17th in 21:17.
- Freshman Morgan Greenman ran the race in 21:44.
- Juniors Nicole Gilbert and Jessica Taylor clocked-in at 22:04 and 22:33, respectively.
UP NEXT
- Olivet will run at the 2017 Michigan State University Spartan Invitational Friday, Sept. 15. The races will be held at the Forest Acres East Golf Course in East Lansing. The women's 6K race will start at 11:40 a.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 12:15 p.m.
