Women’s Volleyball: Olivet bows out of MIAA Tournament with three-set loss at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –The University of Olivet women's volleyball team was eliminated from the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament with a three-set loss to Calvin University tonight at Van Noord Arena.
- Final Score: Calvin defeated Olivet 25-14, 25-17, 25-22
- Location: Van Noord Arena; Grand Rapids, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 12-14 overall, Calvin 21-6 overall
- The Knights led the first two sets from start-to-finish.
- In the third set, Calvin led 8-7. Olivet answered with a 4-1 run to go up by two points, 11-9 and force the Knights to call a timeout. Calvin countered with a 4-0 spurt for its own two-point lead and made the Comets use a timeout. The Knights pushed their advantage to three points before a 5-1 run put Olivet ahead by one point, 16-15. From there, the teams traded points to create five tied scores. After the last one at 21-21, Calvin scored four of the final five points of the set to win it 25-22.
- For the match, Olivet totaled 30 kills and eight blocks compared to 45 kills and seven blocks for the Knights.
- Senior Olivia DuFore and junior Abi Nunez each finished with nine kills.
- Freshman Julia Hall had five kills and four blocks (one solo and three assisted).
- Senior Morgan Dillon tallied four kills and three assisted blocks.
- Junior Teagan Giannunzio dished out 27 assists.
- Sophomore Jaydn Cary led all players with 16 digs.
- Junior Maddie Reynolds served two of the five Comet aces.
- The Comets competed in the MIAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.
- Tonight's match ended the Olivet careers of Morgan Dillon, Olivia DuFore and Emily Keeler.
