Women’s Volleyball: Olivet drops four-set match to Trine

OLIVET, Mich. –The University of Olivet women's volleyball team lost a three-match to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Trine (Ind.) University on Senior Night at the Cutler Event Center. The Thunder won the first two sets, 25-18 and 27-25. The Comets rebounded to win the fourth set, 25-22, before Trine won the fourth set 25-21 to claim the 3-1 win.

- In the opening set, the Comets led three points on three occasions. Olivet maintained its advantage until the Thunder used a 4-0 run to turn a 13-11 deficit into a 15-13 lead. Trine did not relinquish its lead for the remainder of the set.
- In the second set, the Comets took the largest lead for either team at 13-10. Olivet kept at least a two-point lead for the middle portion of the set. Holding a 20-18 lead, the Thunder responded with a 5-0 spurt to go up 23-20. The Comets fought back with three straight kills – two by senior Olivia DuFore and one by senior Morgan Dillon – to even the score. Both teams had attack errors, followed by kills to create 24-24 and 25-25 scores. Trine won the set with a kill and block at the net.
- In the third set, the Thunder led 4-3. A kill by Dillon tied the score and a double contact by the Trine setter handed the lead to Olivet. The teams traded points for a 7-6 Comet lead. A Trine attack error put Olivet ahead by two, followed by an 8-5 Comet run stretched their lead to five points, 16-11. The Thunder answered with four straight points to cut their deficit down to one point. A 4-0 Olivet run extended its lead back to five points. Trine battled back to close the gap to two points twice before a DuFore kill ended the set in the Comets' favor, 25-22.
- In the fourth set, Trine put the first two points on the scoreboard and did not trail for the entire set.
- DuFore posted a single-match, career-high 19 kills.
- Dillon and junior Abi Nunez were next with nine kills apiece.
- Junior Hayleah McFadden finished with eight kills.
- Sophomore Violet Porter four kills.
- Junior Teagan Giannunzio collected 45 set assists and 11 digs.
- Sophomore Jaydn Cary topped the defense with 14 digs.
- Before the match, Olivet recognized, Dillon, DuFore and Emily Keeler who played in their final home match.
- Olivet will travel for a first-round game of the 2023 MIAA Tournament next Tuesday, November 7. The official bracket for the tournament will be released at the conclusion of tomorrow's matches.
