Women’s Volleyball: Olivet sweeps Grace Christian

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team swept Grace Christian University in three sets tonight at the Aldrich Athletic Center. The Comets won by scores of 25-22, 25-8 and 25-19.

- In the first set, the Comets fell behind by a 9-1 score. The Comets chipped away at their deficit at 14-13. The teams traded points before Olivet used a late push to win the set, 25-22.
- The Comets dominated the second set, posting a .333 attack percentage compared to a negative .207 percentage for the Tigers.
- In the third set, Grace Christan used a 5-0 run to turn a 4-3 deficit into an 8-7 lead. The Tigers increased their lead to three points, 13-10. The Comets answered with a 5-1 run to go up 15-14. After exchanging 3-0 spurts to create an 18-17 score. Grace Christian scored two of the next three points to level the score at 19-19. Olivet closed the set with six straight points for the 25-19 set win and 3-0 match victory.
- For the match, Olivet recorded 36 kills to 31 for the Tigers. The Comets hit at a .145 clip compared to .042 for Grace Christian.
- Junior Abi Nunez slammed down a match-best 14 kills.
- Junior Hayleah McFadden was next with 11 kills.
- Junior Teagan Giannunzio recorded 23 set assists.
- Sophomore Jaydn Cary led the defense with 16 digs, followed by junior Maddie Reynolds with 14.
- Giannunzio had 11 digs, while Nunez and senior Emily Keeler tallied eight apiece.
- Nunez served six aces which ties for the second-most in a three-set match since the 2003 season.
- Olivet resumes Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Wednesday, October 4, when it takes on Adrian College. First serve at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center in Adrian is 6:30 p.m.
