FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College senior Madelyn Notenbaum has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Specialty Player of the Week for women's volleyball.
Notenbaum helped the Comets win four matches the Beloit (Wis.) College "Buc" Classic, defeating three opponents in three sets and the fourth opponent in four sets. For the four matches, she totaled 82 set assists, 43 digs, 21 kills and five service aces. Notenbaum's best match was against the host Buccaneers when she had 34 assists, five kills and 15 digs. For her performance, she was selected the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
"I am really proud and happy for what Madelyn accomplished this weekend," said Olivet head women's volleyball coach Megan Merchant. "Playing a 6-2 system, she has been willing to take on a new role with our team by being an attacker in addition to her setting role. This weekend was only the start of what hopefully be an outstanding senior season for Madelyn."
Olivet competes in the MIAA-NCAC Crossover Tournament Friday and Saturday at Aim High Sports in Lansing. The Comets play Oberlin (Ohio) College Friday night at 5 p.m., and College of Wooster (Ohio) and Allegheny (Pa.) College Saturday afternoon, starting at noon.
