Women’s volleyball team loses two matches at MIAA Preview Tournament
The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches today at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Preview Tournament, hosted by Calvin College in Grand Rapids. The Comets fell to Trine (Ind.) University in four sets and were swept by the host Knights in three sets.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches today at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Preview Tournament, hosted by Calvin College in Grand Rapids. The Comets fell to Trine (Ind.) University in four sets and were swept by the host Knights in three sets.
Final Score: Trine def. Olivet 18-25, 25-16, 25-6, 25-23

Records: Olivet 5-2 overall, Trine 4-3 overall
- In the first set, the Comets held a 2-0 lead before building its lead to five points, 11-6. Trine scored four straight points to cut its deficit to a single point. The teams traded points. Holding a 15-13 lead, Olivet outscored the Thunder, 10-5, to win the set 25-18.
- Trine led 4-2 in the second set until the Comets used a 3-0 run to go up 5-4. The Thunder answered with a 4-0 run to take an 8-5 lead and they did not relinquish their advantage for the rest of the set.
- Trine had a wire-to-wire lead in the third set.
- Olivet opened the fourth set with a 6-0 lead. The Comets extended their lead to eight points, 16-8. The Thunder responded with seven consecutive points to make the score 16-15. Two Trine attack errors pushed Olivet's lead back to three points. The Thunder fought back to tie the score three times. After the last one at 22-22, Trine scored two back-to-back points. The Comets fought off one match point before a Trine kill ended the set and match.
- Junior Madelyn Notenbaum tallied a triple double – 11 kills, 15 set assists and 14 digs.
- Junior Brittney Prince was next with nine kills.
- Junior Morgan Champion and freshman Jordyn Emelander both had six kills.
- Freshman Abigail Pray dished out a team-high 16 set assists.
- Junior libero Gabrielle Mundt collected a match-high 21 digs.
- Madison Munger recorded a match-best 16 kills.
- Alexa Ratkowski and Raven Hood finished with 18 and 17 set assists, respectively.
- Lindsey DeCamp had a team-leading 12 digs.
Final Score: Calvin def. Olivet 25-16, 25-14, 25-16

- The Comets never led in the first two sets. In the third set, Olivet held a one-point advantage on five occasions. Following the last one at 10-9, the Knights put six straight points on the scoreboard to go up 15-10. The Comets were not able to recover from that deficit.
- Prince had a team-leading nine kills.
- Notenbaum registered a team-best 14 set assists.
- Mundt tallied a team-high 10 digs.
- Calvin, ranked No. 1 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, had 49 kills compared to 23 for Olivet.
- Sarah DeVries led all players with 18 kills. She did not have any attack errors on 27 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage.
- Anna Schriemer recorded 14 set assists.
- Grace Kellogg and Keilahna Castillo recorded seven digs apiece.
- Olivet travels to play Manchester (Ind.) University next Wednesday, Sept. 12. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
