Women’s volleyball team swept by Saint Mary’s
The Olivet College volleyball team was swept by Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match this evening at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team was swept by Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match this evening at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, the Belles led 3-1 before Olivet scored four straight points to go up 5-3. With the Comets holding a 6-5 lead, Saint Mary's put six straight points on the scoreboard to take a 11-6 lead. The Comets fought back to trim their deficit down to a single point twice, 11-10 and 12-11. The Belles scored five consecutive points to push their lead 17-11. Saint Mary's led one more time by six points, 19-13, before Olivet went on a 7-1 scoring spurt to tie the set at 20-20. The teams traded 3-0 runs to create another tie at 23-23. The Comets saved one set point to level the score at 24-24. A service ace by freshman Mia Parker put Olivet ahead for the first time, 25-24. The Comets served for the set six times but each time Saint Mary's had an answer to even the score. After the Belles tied the set at 31-31, two Olivet attack errors to end the set in favor of Saint Mary's.
- In the second set, the Belles were ahead 4-3. The Comets scored five of the next six points to surge ahead 8-5. During the run, sophomore Morgan Champion had three kills. Saint Mary's came back to take an 11-10 lead. Olivet responded with two points for a 12-11 advantage. The Belles then ended the set on a 14-5 run to win it, 25-16.
- Saint Mary's led the third set until the Comets leveled the score at 14-14. A service error gave the next point to the Belles, and they did not trail for the rest of the set.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet finished the match with 39 total kills.
- Senior Allison Turner led the way with 12.
- Champion was next with 10 kills, followed by sophomore Brittney Prince with nine.
- Sophomore Madelyn Notenbaum recorded 33 set assists.
- Sophomore Gabrielle Mundt shared match-high honors with 21 digs.
FOR THE BELLES
- Saint Mary's slammed down 48 kills, including 22 in the first set.
- Marielle Corbett topped the team with 13 kills and .211 attack percentage.
- Rachel Bonek and Nicole Lukens finished with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
- Morgan Vanderwey dished out 41 set assists.
- Audrey Shannon registered 21 digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 64 total points scored in the first set matches the school record for combined points in the 25-point set scoring era. Alma and Olivet also played to a 33-31 set score on Oct. 6, 2012.
