Volleyball team falls to Alma in five sets
The Olivet College volleyball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College in five sets this morning inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College in five sets this morning inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Alma def. Olivet 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 15-11

Records: Alma 8-11 overall, 4-6 MIAA; Olivet 11-11 overall, 3-7 MIAA
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Scots led 2-0 in the first set before the Comets scored five straight to go up 5-2. Olivet never trailed for the rest of the set. Alma did cut its deficit down to one point, 23-22 and 24-22 until a kill by freshman Madelyn Notenbaum ended the set.
- In the second set, the Scots built a six-point advantage, 17-11. Olivet went on a 6-0 run to even the score at 17-17. Alma scored the final eight points of the set.
- The Scots led early in the third set until the Comets seized a 9-8 lead. Olivet was never down for the rest of the set, winning it 25-19.
- With the score level at 3-3 in the fourth set, Alma used a 5-0 run to take an 8-3 lead. The Scots did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set.
- The Scots had the lead for the entire fifth set, as more than half of their 15 points were result of Comet errors at the net or on the serve receive.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Morgan Champion and junior Courtney Cronkright each had 12 kills to lead Olivet.
- Freshman Brittney Prince and Notenbaum finished with eight and seven kills, respectively.
- Senior Danielle Bearden collected 25 set assists.
- Cronkright and senior Mona Hinamanu recorded a team-best 17 digs apiece.
FOR THE SCOTS
- Kendall Sells and Georgia Miller finished registered 11 kills each.
- Dakota Pelach had 10 kills to go along with a team-high 28 set assists and 23 digs.
BEYOND THE MATCH
- The Comets dedicated today's match to Colleen Pringle, who is battling breast cancer. Colleen is the mother of former Olivet women's volleyball player, Taylor, and current men's volleyball player, Brock.
UP NEXT
- Olivet is on the road next Wednesday night to face Hope College. First serve at the DeVos Fieldhouse is 6:30 p.m.
