Volleyball team loses in four sets at Albion

ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team lost in four sets to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College tonight inside Kresge Gymnasium in Albion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a 1-1 tie in the first set, the Comets scored the next point on a kill by senior Re'Gene Thompson. Olivet did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set. The nine-point margin at the end of the set was the largest Comet lead in the set.
- Albion wrote a similar script to Olivet in the second set. After a 2-2 deadlock, the Britons scored the next point and never trailed for the rest of the set.
- The Comets tied the third set at 1-1 before Albion went on an 8-0 run to go up 9-1. Olivet was never able to recover from that scoring spurt.
- In the fourth set, the Comets had a six-point cushion, 12-6. The Britons responded with six consecutive points to knot the score at 12-12. The teams traded points, causing six additional tied scores. After the last tie, 18-18, Albion closed the set on a 7-2 run to win it 25-20.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Madelyn Notenbaum posted her fourth triple-double of the season, with a match-high 17 kills to go along with 17 set assists and 11 digs.
- Junior Allison Turner joined her in double digits with 14 kills.
- Senior Danielle Bearden recorded a team-best 20 set assists.
- Junior Courtney Cronkright finished with a team-high 17 digs.
FOR THE BRITONS
- Lauren Outwater topped the Britons with 16 kills.
- Taylor Rosenthal was next with nine kills, while Stephanie Thurner had eight kills.
- Ami Milligan led all players with 49 set assists.
- Monica Shuk dug up a match-high 21 balls.
