Volleyball team swept by Hope in three sets
The Olivet College volleyball team was swept by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Hope College in three sets today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team was swept by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Hope College in three sets today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Hope def. Olivet 25-20, 25-20, 25-17

Records: Hope 6-0 overall, 2-0 MIAA; Olivet 4-3, 1-2 MIAA
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Olivet held a couple early leads in the first set. The last time was 7-6. Hope scored the next two points to go up 8-7. The Comets knotted the score three more times. Following a 10-10 tie, the Flying Dutch went on a 3-0 run to take a 13-10 lead. They did not give up the lead for the rest of the set.
- Hope had a seven-point advantage in the second set, 23-16. Olivet trimmed its deficit down to three points, 23-20 before the Flying Dutch used back-to-back kills to end the set.
- In the third set, Hope led by five points, 12-7. The Comets came back with a 9-4 scoring spurt to level the score at 16-16. The Flying Dutch put nine of the final 11 points on the scoreboard for the final margin.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Re'Gene Thompson paced Olivet's front row with seven kills.
- Freshman Madelyn Notenbaum recorded five kills, nine set assists and five digs.
- Freshman Brittney Prince had four blocks, including two solo.
- Senior Danielle Bearden dished out a team-best 13 set assists.
- Senior libero Mona Hinamanu registered a team-high nine digs.
FOR THE FLYING DUTCH
- Katie Rietberg slammed down a match-high 11 kills, followed by Sarah Feldpausch with 10, and Haley Muller and Courtney Van Houzen with nine each.
- Sophia Hackett had 43 set assists.
- Alexis Thompson topped the team with 13 digs.
UP NEXT
- Olivet returns to the court next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17, at the Kenyon (Ohio) Invitational. On Friday night, the Comets play Franklin (Ind.) College at 6 p.m., followed by a match against Earlham (Ind.) College. On Saturday, Olivet faces Kenyon at 11 a.m., followed by a match against Otterbein (Ohio) University.
