Volleyball team beats Illinois College and Earlham for 4-0 weekend record
The Olivet College volleyball team won both matches today at the Illinois College Tournament in three sets.

Guile and Thompson named to all-tournament team
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Olivet College volleyball team won both matches today at the Illinois College Tournament in three sets. The Comets defeated the host Lady Blues, 25-17, 25-15, 25-22, and Earlham (Ind.) College 25-16, 25-13, 25-16. With the wins, Olivet improves its overall record to 9-2. For their efforts, senior Marissa Guile and junior Re'Gene Thompson were named to the all-tournament team.
The Comets had no trouble with Illinois College, as they led all three sets from start-to-finish. Olivet posted a .229 team hitting percentage, recording 38 kills with 13 errors on 109 attempts. The Lady Blues hit .035. Guile topped all players with 14 kills. She had three errors on 32 attempts for a .344 attack percentage.
Sophomore Courtney Cronkright and Thompson finished with eight and seven kills, respectively. Thompson also had four blocks. Junior Danielle Bearden collected 30 set assists, while senior Dallas James had a team-leading 15 digs.
The Comets held a wire-to-wire lead in the first two sets against Earlham. The Quakers led 9-8 in the third set until a 5-0 run put Olivet ahead for good.
For the match, the Comets had a .264 attack percentage compared to a -.031 for Earlham. Guile had 12 kills, with only one error on 21 attempts for a .524 hitting percentage. Thompson contributed 10 kills and three blocks. Bearden finished with 27 set assists. Junior libero Mona Hinamanu registered 15 digs.
Olivet resumes its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Tuesday, Sept. 22, with a home match against Trine (Ind.) University. First serve inside The Cutler Event Center is 6:30 p.m.
