Volleyball team opens season with two wins at HCAC Challenge
The Olivet College women’s volleyball team opened its season with two wins against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rivals today at Adrian College. The Comets started the day with a four-set win over Manchester (Ind.) and then beat Anderson (Ind.) in five sets.

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College women's volleyball team opened its season with two wins against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rivals today at Adrian College. The Comets started the day with a four-set win (25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21) over Manchester (Ind.) University and then beat Anderson (Ind.) University in five sets (27-29, 25-22, 17-25, 27-25, 15-11).
Against Manchester, junior Re'Gene Thompson pounded down a match-high 18 kills. She had only two errors on 27 attempts for a .593 hitting percentage. Senior Marissa Guile was next with 16 kills and .303 hitting percentage. Sophomore Allison Turner had 14 kills, followed by sophomore Courtney Cronkright with eight.
Junior Danielle Bearden dished out 36 set assists. Junior Mona Hinamanu led the defense with 20 digs. Senior Dallas James and Cronkright also reached double figures in digs with 11 and 10, respectively.
Against Anderson, Turner recorded 22 kills, while Guile and Thompson had 20 apiece. Bearden added 72 assists. Hinamanu collected 28 digs.
Olivet continues play at Adrian tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University and 2 p.m. against Earlham (Ind.) College.
