Volleyball team beats Albion in five sets
Olivet College volleyball team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College tonight in five sets (25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 21-25, 15-13) at Kresge Gymnasium in Albion.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College tonight in five sets at Kresge Gymnasium in Albion. The Comets won the first set, 25-21, before the Britons won the second set, 25-23. Olivet rolled to a 25-17 win in set three, but Albion forced a deciding set with a 25-21 win in set four. The Comets closed out the match with 15-13 victory in the fifth set.
Junior Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) led all players with 23 kills. She had just two errors on 43 attempts for a match-best .488 hitting percentage. Sophomore Marissa Guile (Williamston) finished with 15 kills, including the match-deciding point. Junior Taylor Pringle (Haslett) quarterbacked the offensive attack with 31 set assists, while freshman Danielle Bearden (Goodrich) had 19 assists. Junior Megan VanderVlucht (McBain) posted a match-leading 37 digs. Senior Tina Westendorp (Nashville/Maple Valley) was next with 27 digs.
Olivet is idle until next Tuesday, Oct. 29, when it participates in a tri-match at Alma College. The Comets play Finlandia University for a non-conference match at 5 p.m., followed by an MIAA match against the host Scots.
