Volleyball team loses in three sets to #1 Calvin

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team lost in three sets to Calvin College, 25-18, 25-9 and 25-20, tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. Calvin entered the match ranked No. 1 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll.
There were three tied scores and two lead changes early in the first set. After the last tie at 5-5, the Knights scored four straight points to go up 9-5. The Comets would come back and trail by only three points on three occasions, with the last time being 17-14. Calvin led the second set from wire-to-wire. Olivet scored the first point of the third set before the Knights answered with two straight points to take the lead and never gave it up.
For the match, the Comets pounded down 29 kills and did not have a negative attack percentage in any of the sets. Senior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) led the way with nine kills, while junior Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) had seven. Junior Taylor Pringle (Haslett) topped the team with 15 set assists, and freshman Danielle Bearden added 10. Junior Megan VanderVlucht (McBain) was the defensive leader with 11 digs.
Olivet is idle until next Tuesday, Oct. 15, when it travels to play Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at 7 p.m.
