Volleyball team beats Albion 25-15, 25-18, 25-16
The Olivet College volleyball team worked quickly in sweeping Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College in three sets this morning at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team worked quickly in sweeping Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College in three sets this morning at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
Albion led the first set 1-0 before the Comets scored two straight points and never looked back. Olivet led by as many as 10 points twice, with the last time being the final score of the set, 25-15. The Britons led the second set, 8-3, until the Comets went on an 8-3 run to tie the set at 11-11.
The teams traded points until a kill gave Olivet the lead for good. The seven-point difference, 25-18, at the end of the set was the biggest lead of the set. The Comets put the first point on the scoreboard in the third set and did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set.
For the match, Olivet hit a season-best .266, with 47 kills and 14 errors on 124 attempts. Freshman Cassie Brown (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) and senior Tina Westendorp (Nashville/Maple Valley) each had 10 kills. Senior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) and junior Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) finished with nine and eight kills, respectively. Brann posted a team-best .368 attack percentage with only one error on 19 attempts.
Freshman Danielle Bearden (Goodrich) led all players with 25 set assists, while junior Taylor Pringle (Haslett) had 17 assists. Junior libero Megan VanderVlucht (McBain) contributed a match-high 19 digs.
The Comets host Alma College Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
