Volleyball team loses two matches at Elmhurst Bluejay Classic

The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches today at the Elmhurst (Ill.) College Bluejay Classic inside the R.A. Faganel Hall in Elmhurst, Ill. In their season-opener, the Comets dropped a close four-set decision to Illinois Wesleyan University 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21. Olivet then was swept in three sets by Wisconsin Lutheran College 25-15, 25-12, 25-22.

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches today at the Elmhurst (Ill.) College Bluejay Classic inside the R.A. Faganel Hall in Elmhurst, Ill. In their season-opener, the Comets dropped a close four-set decision to Illinois Wesleyan University 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21. Olivet then was swept in three sets by Wisconsin Lutheran College 25-15, 25-12, 25-22.

Against Illinois Wesleyan, senior Tina Westendorp (Nashville/Maple Valley) and sophomore Lydia Drikakis (Battle Creek/Lakeview) each had nine kills. Senior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) was next with seven kills.

Freshman libero Mona Hinamanu (Okemos/Mason) posted a team-leading 22 digs, while fellow freshman Gabrielle Trudell (Mason) served up four aces. Setters Danielle Bearden (Goodrich) and Taylor Pringle (Haslett) recorded 11 assists apiece.

Against WLC, Westendorp led the way with seven kills, while Trudell had six. Pringle dished out a team-leading 13 assists. Freshman Tori Baise (Williamston) finished with 10 digs.

The Comets will play St. Norbert (Wis.) College and Buena Vista (Iowa) University tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. and noon CT.
