Volleyball team beaten in four sets by Hope
The Olivet College volleyball team lost in four sets to Hope College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match this evening in front of a spirited student crowd at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team lost in four sets to Hope College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match this evening in front of a spirited student crowd at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Flying Dutch, ranked No. 2 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll released earlier today, won the first set 25-16. The Comets rallied to win the second set, 25-20, before Hope closed out the match by winning the third (25-12) and fourth (25-13) sets. With the win in the second set, Olivet is the first MIAA school besides Calvin College to win a set against the Flying Dutch this season.
The Comets' front row was led by junior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) who pounded down 13 kills, with seven errors on 27 attempts for a team-best .222 hitting percentage. Sophomore Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) also recorded double digit kills with 111. Lang also had one solo block and two assisted blocks, while Brann had two solo and one assisted blocks.
Sophomore Taylor Pringle (Haslett) dished out a team-leading 28 set assists. In the back row, sophomore Megan VanderVlucht (McBain) collected a team-high nine digs.
Olivet will now prepare for a busy weekend. On Friday, the Comets will travel to play Trine (Ind.) University. On Saturday, they will host Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in a MIAA match at noon, and then play Finlandia University in a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
