Volleyball team has 0-4 record at DePauw Invitational
The Olivet College volleyball team had an 0-4 record at the 2012 DePauw (Ind.) University Tigers Invitational. On Friday, the Comets fell to Millikin (Ill.) University in four sets (25-21, 24-26, 25-6, 25-15) and in three sets (25-12, 25-19, 25-21) to DePauw. Today, Olivet was swept in three sets by Hanover (Ind.) College (25-13, 25-19, 25-19) and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology (25-21, 26-24, 25-13).

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Olivet College volleyball team had an 0-4 record at the 2012 DePauw (Ind.) University Tigers Invitational. On Friday, the Comets fell to Millikin (Ill.) University in four sets (25-21, 24-26, 25-6, 25-15) and in three sets (25-12, 25-19, 25-21) to DePauw. Today, Olivet was swept in three sets by Hanover (Ind.) College (25-13, 25-19, 25-19) and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology (25-21, 26-24, 25-13).
Against Millikin, sophomore Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) led the team with eight kills, while junior Tina Westendorp (Nashville/Maple Valley) had seven kills. Sophomore Taylor Pringle (Haslett) finished with 25 set assists. Westendorp topped the defense with 12 digs. Freshman Marissa Guile (Williamston) and junior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) each recorded two blocks.
Against DePauw, Brann and Westendorp had four kills apiece. Pringle added seven set assists and five service aces. Sophomore Megan VanderVlucht (McBain) posted a team-leading eight digs, while Pringle and freshman Lydia Drikakis (Battle Creek/Lakeview) each collected six digs.
Against Hanover, Brann and Guile pounded down five kills apiece. Pringle and freshman Rachel Pond (Rives Junction/Jackson Northwest) each recoded seven set assists. Defenisvely, VanderVlucht topped the team with 13 digs.
Against Rose-Hulman, Brann had 13 kills with zero errors on 18 attacks for a .722 hitting percentage. Westendorp was next with seven kills. Pond finished with a team-high 11 set assists, and Pringle was right behind her with nine. Freshman Dallas James (Roscommon) led the team with 21 digs, and sophomore Mackenzie Inman (Union City) was next with 18.
The Comets will now gear up for a busy week, with three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association matches. On Tuesday night, they host Trine (Ind.) University at The Cutler Event Center at 6:30 p.m. On Friday night, Olivet travels to play Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, the Comets host Albion at 4 p.m.
