Volleyball team loses to Alma in four sets
The volleyball team fell to Alma College in four sets tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College volleyball team fell to Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. After the Scots won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-19, Olivet rallied to win the third set, 25-19. The Scots then claimed the victory with a 25-14 win in set four.
Three Olivet players reached double figures in kills, led by sophomore Sam Gibson's (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) 13, followed by sophomore Melanie Merchant (St. Joseph) with 11 and junior Ashley Grimes (Concord) with 10. Sophomore Tori King (Ash Grove, Mo.) recorded six blocks, including five assisted. Playing in their final home match, seniors Jenessa Hicks (Union City) and Morgan Iloncaie (Port Huron/Imlay City) posted team-highs in set assists (44) and digs (23), respectively. Hicks also had 17 digs. Freshman Kaitlyn Salhaney (Caledonia/East Kentwood) had three service aces.
The Comets will rest tonight in preparation for two matches tomorrow at Adrian College. They will play a league match against the host Bulldogs at 11 a.m., followed by a non-conference match against Defiance (Ohio) College.
