OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College volleyball team beat Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in its home-opener today at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Comets won in four sets (25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-16).
Sophomore Sam Gibson (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) continued her great play in the front row with a match-high 17 kills. She had just three attack errors on 36 attempts for a .333 attacking percentage. Junior Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores), sophomore Melanie Merchant (St. Joseph) and senior Ellen Schulz (Freeland) each recorded seven kills. Senior Jenessa Hicks (Union City) collected 24 set assists, while junior libero Mallory Schug (Climax/Galesburg Augusta) was credited with a team-leading 23 digs.
Olivet (5-3, 2-1 MIAA) will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 15, when it hosts MIAA-rival Albion College at 6:30 p.m.
