AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team made the head coaching debut for Lynnette Moster one to remember. The Comets rallied to beat Rochester College in four sets tonight at Oakland Christian High School in Auburn Hills. After losing the first set 25-14, Olivet won the next three sets 25-18, 25-22 and 25-22.
Attacking the ball, sophomore Sam Gibson (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) led the way with eight kills. Junior Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and sophomore Tori King (Ash Grove, Mo.) each had seven kills, followed by senior Ellen Schulz (Freeland) with six. Senior Jenessa Hicks (Union City) finished with 25 set assists. The defense was led by senior Morgan Iloncaie (Port Huron/Imlay City) with 10 digs, while senior Megan McCarty (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) recorded eight.
"I am excited about getting the first win," said Moster. "Our team did a great job of being flexible with different lineups. Many players had to come in from the bench and they did a great job of taking control. This is a great beginning, and there are areas where we need to improve, but it was great to see them fight back and get the win."
Olivet will travel to Kalamazoo to play in the Kalamazoo College Green Hornet Invitational Friday and Saturday, Sept. 3-4.
