Track and field: Olivet begins outdoor season at Margaret Simmons Invitational

MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Olivet men's and women's track and field teams started the outdoor part of their 2024 schedules by competing at the 2024 Margaret Simmons Invitational, hosted by Murray State (Ky.) University.
- Olivet finished fifth of 14 schools with 66 points. Lindenwood (Mo.) University captured the team title with 148 points, followed by Purdue Fort Wayne (Ind.), 113; Evansville (Ill.) University, 101; and Saint Louis, 77.
- Freshman Owen Fremeau had a great collegiate outdoor debut in the throwing events, as he broke the school record in the discus with a heave of 46.35 meters. Fremeau posted the sixth-best mark in school history in the shot put at 14.40 meters and seventh-best mark in the hammer throw at 43.25 meters.
- Freshman Keegan Nutt cleared the pole vault bar 4.30 meters which is the third-best mark in Olivet history.
- In the 100-meter dash time trials, senior Jordon Brown ran the sixth-best time in school history at 10.99 seconds. He also finished third of 51 runners in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.73 seconds.
- The 4x800-meter relay team of seniors Chris Davis and Hunter Hillard, freshman Deegan Bodell and sophomore Anthony DeVito posted the third-quickest time in school history at 8:25.62.
- The 4x400-meter quartet of freshman Luke Leighton, sophomore Jonathan Holloway, sophomore Dontal Wright and Brown finished second (3:27.30).
- The Comets totaled 14 points to place 10th of 13 schools. The host Racers won the team title with 249.5 points.
- Sophomore Natalia Johnson recorded the sixth-fastest time in school history in the 100-meter dash at 13.11 seconds and ninth-fastest 200-meter dash time at 27.13 seconds.
- Both 4x800-meter relays clocked-in with all-time top 10 times. The A relay team of seniors Allyson Stevens and Tonya Tepin, freshman Aubrey Connelly and sophomore Sarah Grove was fifth quickest at 10:35.15. The B team of senior Lily Connelly, junior Abbey Peters, and freshmen Evelyn Gifford and Aaliyah Cota was ninth fastest at 11:40.72.
- Junior London Eldridge posted a personal-best time of 27.87 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
- Stevens ran a career-best time of 2:36.52 in the 800-meter run.
- The Comets compete at the Alma College Triangular next Friday, March 29.
