FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College freshman Lillian Albaugh has been chosen the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. She has earned the honor for the second time this season.
Albaugh broke the school record in the shot put with a toss of 44 feet and 9-1/2 inches at the Grand Valley State University "Big Meet." She was one of 17 competitors selected to compete in the event, and placed fourth. The other 16 participants were from high-level NCAA institutions. Allbaugh's mark is No. 1 in the MIAA this winter and No. 11 on the NCAA Division III Performance List, according to tfrrs.org.
"Lillian thrives when she is throwing shot put," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "She loves competing and challenging herself every time she gets in the ring, whether it is practice or competition. We are excited to see what she can do the rest of the season as well as the next few years as she is only a freshman."
Olivet is back in action Saturday at the Hillsdale College Tune Up. Field events start at 9:30 a.m., followed by running events at 11 a.m.
