Women’s track & field: Comets sit in fifth-place after day one of MIAA Field Day
Led by senior Cassie Ciaravino, The Olivet College women’s track & field team sits in fifth-place after the first day of the 2015 MIAA Field Day.
ALBION, Mich. – Led by senior Cassie Ciaravino, The Olivet College women's track & field team sits in fifth-place after the first day of the 2015 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day, held at Albion College.
The Comets totaled 14.66 points in today's finals. Calvin College is in first-place with 91.5 points, followed by Hope College, 55.83; Trine (Ind.) University, 35; and Albion, 27. Adrian College is sixth with six points, and Alma College is seventh with four points.
Ciaravino scored third-place points in the high jump with a leap of 16 feet and 8 inches. She also placed fourth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4 feet and 11-1/2 inches. On the track, Ciaravino won her heat of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.54 seconds and posted the sixth-fastest time in the 100-meter dash prelims to advance to the finals in both events.
Sophomore Rachael Durocher also advanced to the finals of the 100-meter dash with the eighth-fastest prelim time at 13.59 seconds.
Three Comets scored points in the pole vault. Junior Danielle Hoffman was the highest finisher in sixth place with a 9 feet and 6-1/4 inch clearance. Junior Lauren Easton and freshman Michaela Kaliniak shared eighth-place with 8 feet and 11-3/4 inch clearances.
Finals in three more field events get underway tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. Finals in all running event will commence at 1:30 p.m.
