Track and Field: Comet men and women place seventh at MIAA Jamboree
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track & field teams placed seventh at the 2015 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree today at Adrian College.
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's track & field teams placed seventh at the 2015 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree today at Adrian College.
The Comet men scored 308 total points. They were led by sophomore Connor Bauserman who won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.21. Senior Andrew Benkovsky took third-place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:37.49. Senior Greg Lutzke was the third runner to cross the finish line in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:04.88.
Senior Jalen Weaver placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:11.09. Bauserman, Weaver and Benkovsky teamed with sophomore Darren Lumpkin for a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:24.32.
Junior Drew Miller had Olivet's best performance in the field events, as he finished in seventh-place in the discus throw with a toss of 36.27 meters/119 feet.
The Olivet women collected 222 total points. Senior Cassie Ciaravino won the high jump with a 1.52 meter/4 feet, 11-3/4 inch clearance. She also finished in second-place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.68 seconds, which just 5/100ths slower than the winner.
Also on the track, freshman Jessica D'Haene was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.93 and freshman Rachael Durocher placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:14.34.
Freshman Michaela Kaliniak tied for second-place in the pole vault, as she cleared the bar at 2.90 meters/9 feet, 6-1/4 inches. The mark tied the school outdoor record, first set by current junior Danielle Hoffman at the 2014 MIAA Field Day.
Olivet hosts the 2015 Comet Invitational next Friday and Saturday, April 17-18. Friday's events include events in the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon. Saturday's events feature the remaining events.
