Track & field: School records highlight Olivet at Defiance Open
The Olivet College indoor track & field teams traveled down to Defiance, Ohio, to participate in the Defiance College Open, inside the George M. Smart Center.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College indoor track & field teams traveled down to Defiance, Ohio, to participate in the Defiance College Open, inside the George M. Smart Center.
Headlining the meet was three Comets finishing in the top five of the men's 800-meter run. SeniorJalen Weaver won the race in 1:56.23, followed by sophomore Connor Bauserman in second at 1:57.13 and junior Tyler Britten in fifth at 2:04.05.
Sophomore Grant Arras posted the second-fastest time in the 200-meter dash in 24.29 seconds. Weaver was sixth in 24.56 seconds. Freshman Drew Miller posted the top performance in the field events for the men, as he placed seventh in the shot put with a 12.73m mark.
For the women, junior Danielle Hoffman equaled her own school-record mark in the pole vault, 2.90m/9'6.25", to finish in fourth-place. Freshman Allyson Schultz lowered the school record in the mile run with a time of 5:41.10 to place fifth. She previously held the record at 5:43.38.
Freshman Jessica D'Haene was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.15. She joined with junior Lauren Easton and freshmen Millie Funk and Casey Lamp for a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. Their time was 4:41.07.
Olivet next competes at the 2015 Hillsdale College Tune-Up Meet Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Biermann Athletic Center. Field events start at 9:30 a.m., followed by running events at 11 a.m.
