Track & field teams participate in Ernie Mousseau Classic
The Olivet College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams participated in the 2014 Ernie Mousseau Classic Saturday afternoon at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.
HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams participated in the 2014 Ernie Mousseau Classic Saturday afternoon at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.
MEN
Freshman Darren Lumpkin (Pontiac/Oxford) finished in third-place in the 400-meter dash (51.30) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.01). Junior Andrew Benkovsky (Eaton Rapids) placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:02.75). Freshman Connor Bauserman (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) was third in the 800-meter run (1:56.94). The aforementioned three student-athletes along with junior Jalen Weaver (Albion) crossed the line second in the 4x400-meter relay (3:23.54).
Freshman Bryce Prudden (Charlotte) had the best finish in the field events. He cleared the high jump bar at 1.95 meters/6'4.75" to finish in second-place.
WOMEN
The Comets were led by junior Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East). She won the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.66 meters/5'5.25", which is also the 12th best mark on the NCAA DIII performance list. Ciaravino also broke the school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.75 seconds. The previous record was 12.79 seconds by Olivia Yarrell on April 29, 2010.
Also in the field events, senior Rachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) tied for second in the high jump (1.55 meters/5'1"). Senior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) placed fifth in the shot put (11.66 meters/38'3.25").
Olivet will travel to Alma College next Thursday and Friday, May 1-2, for the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day.
