Olivet College tennis teams and players earn ITA academic awards
The Olivet College men’s and women’s tennis teams have earned the All-Academic Team Award from the International Tennis Association (ITA). In addition, eight members of the women’s team and five members of the men’s team have received ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades.
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Olivet College men's and women's tennis teams have earned the All-Academic Team Award from the International Tennis Association (ITA). The award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or above. The GPAs for all players on the official eligibilty list and also earned a varsity letter are used to determine the official team GPA.
Led by first-year Head Coach Andrew DeBruyn, the women's team had a 3.67 GPA, while the men's team had a 3.48 GPA. Overall, the Olivet women are receiving this award for the eighth time in school history, including the seventh time in the last eight years.
In addition, eight members of the women's team and five members of the men's team have received ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades. To earn this honor, the student-athlete needed be a varsity letterwinner and post a GPA of at least 3.50 for the 2015-16 academic year.
Receiving ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades on the women's team are Lydia Drikakis, Maddy Drikakis, Jeanette Fisher, Amanda Gruszka, Rachael Hager, Haley Powers, BreAnne Rudlaff and Isabel Snyder. The Drikakis sisters along with Powers and Rudlaff are repeat selections. The men's team members receiving this honor are Zak Gray, Matt Henderson, Jacob Richards, Talen Schallhorn and Michael Tran.
