FREELAND, Mich. -- Olivet College freshman Rachael Hager has been named to the 2016 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) second-team for women's tennis.
Under the tutelage of third-year head coach Andrew DeBruyn, the women's tennis team finished the 2015-16 season with an 8-9 overall record and finished in fifth-place in the MIAA standings with a 4-4 record. The four league wins are the most in school history for a single-season.
This season, Hager had a 9-8 record, with a 3-5 MIAA record, for the Comets in singles play. During the fall season, she posted a 3-1 record at No. 2 singles before moving up to play No. 1 singles during the spring. Two of her her losses in MIAA play were in three sets. At the No. 1 doubles flight, Hager and sophomore Maddy Drikakis compiled a 9-8 record, including a 4-4 mark against MIAA opponents.
"I am so happy for Rachael," said DeBruyn. "This honor is well deserved for her after a great freshman season of tennis at Olivet. I am already looking forward to next season to see not only how much Rachael improves but also our entire team. We will return the majority of our starting lineup, and with the addition of some recruits, we should have another great year."
