Women’s tennis team beats Alma, 8-1
The Olivet College women’s tennis team swept doubles and won 5-of-6 singles flights to beat Alma College, 8-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association match inside the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College women's tennis team swept doubles and won 5-of-6 singles flights to beat Alma College, 8-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association match today inside the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek. With the win, the Comets have a 4-3 MIAA record, and the four league wins are the most in school history in a season.
The Comets breezed through the doubles matches. The No. 3 duo of senior Lydia Drikakis and junior Isabel Snyder did not lose any games for an 8-0 victory. Both the No. 1 duo of freshman Rachael Hager and sophomore Maddy Drikakis, and sophomores Haley Powers and BreAnne Rudlaff won 8-3 pro-sets.
In singles, Maddy Drikakis coasted to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 position. Rudlaff lose only one game in each set to win 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4. Powers won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3. Senior Jeanette Fisher claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6. At No. 1, Hager won the first set, 7-5, but was down 5-2 in the second set before rallying to win it 7-6 with a 7-2 tiebreaker.
Olivet will conclude its season Saturday when they host Hope College at 1 p.m.
