Women’s tennis team wins 5-4 thriller over Albion
Senior Jeanette Fisher came-from-behind to win her No. 6 singles match to clinch a 5-4 win for the Olivet College women’s tennis team over Albion College today at the Battle Creek Country Club. It is believed to be the first-ever win over the Britons in school history.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Senior Jeanette Fisher came-from-behind to win her No. 6 singles match to clinch a 5-4 win for the Olivet College women's tennis team over Albion College today at the Battle Creek Country Club. It is believed to be the first-ever win over the Britons in school history.
The match started with junior Isabel Snyder and senior Lydia Drikakis rolling to an 8-0 win at the No. 3 doubles slot. Sophomores Haley Powers and BreAnne Rudlaff pulled out a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles to put the Comets ahead 2-1 entering singles play.
After a straight-set loss at No. 3 singles to tie the match at 2-2, Rudlaff won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 to hand the lead back to Olivet, 3-2. Freshman Rachael Hager also won in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-3, at No. 1 singles to give Olivet a 4-2 lead. The Britons earned wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to level the team score at 4-4.
Fisher won the first set of her singles match, 7-5, over Rachel Barry. Barry came back to win the second set, 6-2. Down 5-2 in the third set, Fisher rallied to win five straight games to pull out a nail-biting 7-5 victory and give the final team point to the Comets.
The Comets are back in action Monday afternoon against Trine (Ind.) University. The match will be played at Fremont High School and start at 5 p.m.
