Women’s tennis: Olivet opens MIAA play with 6-3 loss against Adrian
The Olivet College women’s tennis team began MIAA play with a 6-3 loss against Adrian College this afternoon at the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College women's tennis team began Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 6-3 loss against Adrian College this afternoon at the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek.
The Comets got off to a great start by winning 2-of-3 doubles flights. The Bulldogs won the match by winning 5-of-6 singles flights.
In doubles play, Olivet's No. 1 duo of freshmen Blake Day and Maddy Drikakis won an 8-5 pro-set. The No. 3 team of junior Lucy McNally and sophomore Isabel Snyder claimed an 8-4 pro-set victory. The No. 2 tandem of freshmen Haley Powers and BreAnne Rudlaff battled back to tie the pro-set at 8-8 to force a match tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, they were down 6-3 before scoring three straight points to tie it before the Adrian team won the next two to earn the hard-fought 9-8 (8-6) win.
The Comets' only singles point came at the No. 2 flight where Day coasted to a 6-2, 6-1 straight set win. Rudlaff lost in three sets at No. 4 singles. After losing the first set 6-2, she came back to win the second set, 6-3, before dropping the third set 6-4.
Olivet is scheduled to play three MIAA matches over the next seven days, beginning Wednesday with a 4 p.m. match at Alma College. The Comets then return to Minges Creek for a Saturday match vs. Saint Mary's (Ind.) College and Sunday match vs. Kalamazoo College. Both weekend matches will start at 1 p.m.
