Women’s tennis: Olivet sweeps Defiance, 9-0
The Olivet College women’s tennis team swept Defiance (Ohio) College, 9-0, today in Defiance, Ohio. The win snapped a 31-match losing streak for the Comets.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College women's tennis team swept Defiance (Ohio) College, 9-0, today in Defiance, Ohio. The win snapped a 31-match losing streak for the Comets. Olivet's last win was a 5-4 decision over Farleigh Dickinson (N.J.) University on March 15, 2012.
The Comets got off to a fast start by only losing seven total games in doubles play. The No. 1 duo of junior Lydia Drikakis and freshman Maddy Drikakis won 8-2. Freshman BreAnne Rudlaff and sophomore Isabel Snyder posted an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Alexis Hyatt and junior Lucy McNally cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The domination continued in singles play, as Olivet lost only six games among all six flights. At No. 1, Maddy Drikakis did not lose a single game, winning 6-0, 6-0. Lydia Drikakis lost only one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
At No. 3, McNally won the first set 6-3 before winning the second set, 6-0. At the No. 4 position, Rudlaff was winning her match 6-0, 2-0, before her opponent defaulted due to an injury. Snyder recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5. Senior Devan Thomas swept her opponent at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0.
Olivet will travel to play Huntington (Ind.) University for its final fall match Saturday afternoon, starting at 1 p.m.
