Swimming & diving teams open season at MIAA Relays
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams opened the 2019-20 season by participating in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Relays, hosted by Calvin College and held inside the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened the 2019-20 season by participating in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Relays, hosted by Calvin College and held inside the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
- The placements mentioned below are how the relay finished among the top relay from each of the six MIAA schools.
- The 400-yard IM relay quartet of freshmen Takato Timmerman, Carter Moore and Jacob Ritter, and senior Zach Meharg was third at 3:48.75. The time was fourth-quickest among 11 relays in the race.
- The 200-yard backstroke relay team of Meharg, Ritter, Moore and Sebastian O'Leary placed fourth with a time of 1:49.08.
- The 200-yard breaststroke team of Ritter, Timmerman, junior Patrick Gault, and sophomore Cade Erickson finished fourth with a time of 1:58.12. The time was also fourth-fastest among the 10 relays in the race.
- The 3x500-yard freestyle relay trio of Erickson, Meharg and freshman Parker Brown was fourth at 15:38.32.
- Diving was a combined gender synchronized event on both the one- and three-meter board. Divers were paired with a diver from another school. Senior Dalton Miner paired with a Hope diver to finish second on the one-meter (174.80 points) and third on the three-meter (168.50 points).
- With a time of 5:20.83, the 500-yard progressive relay quartet of juniors Keanalanimeleo'kekai Kunz and Ally Smith, senior Amelia Tomalka and sophomore Kayla Eichaker finished in fifth-place among the top relay from each school.
- Diving for the women was the same as the men. Senior Abbie Slater and a Hope diver was sixth on the three-meter (131.40 points) and seventh on the one-meter (141.75 points).
- The Comets start the dual meet portion of their schedule next Saturday, Nov. 2, at Hillsdale College. The women compete against Hillsdale, Notre Dame College of Ohio, Tiffin (Ohio) University and Ursuline (Ohio) College, while the men face only Notre Dame and Tiffin. The meet gets started at 1 p.m.
