Swimming & diving teams finish in fifth and sixth-place at 2016 MIAA Championships
The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams finished in fifth and sixth-place at the 2016 MIAA Championships, held inside the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams finished in fifth and sixth-place at the 2016 MIAA Championships, held inside the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
In Saturday's events, senior Taylor Howard had the Comets' top performance, as he placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke. He had a lifetime-best time of 2:07.73 for the second-fastest mark in school history. Junior Zak Gray placed 14th with a career-best time of 2:24.75. Freshman Derek Melinsky finished in 11th-place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.93.
Freshman Bryan Plesner placed 14th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:25.30. The 400-yard freestyle relay group of Plesner, freshman Kody Garcia, Gray and Howard clocked-in with the fifth-fastest time at 3:31.82.
Junior Bryce Prudden finished in 10th-place in the 3-meter diving. He scored 354.10 points was a career-high 11-dive total.
Olivet had three swimmers compete in the consolation finals of the 200-yard freestyle. Freshman Taylor Tibbetts finished 11th in 56.00 seconds, followed by senior Megan Dossey in 15th, 57.04; and freshman Sabrina Butler in 16th in 58.37 seconds. Sophomore Emma Cole was 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:47.21.
In the final event of the championships, the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Comets' team of freshman Delaney Graham, Butler, Dossey and Tibbetts was sixth with a time of 3:48.09.
