Swimming & diving teams complete day two at MIAA Championships
The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams sit in fifth and sixth-place after two days of the 2016 MIAA Championships at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams sit in fifth and sixth-place after two days of the 2016 MIAA Championships at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
For the men, senior Taylor Howard was third in the consolation heat for an overall 11th-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. His time in the finals was 1:59.43. Junior Bryce Prudden scored 339 points on the one-meter diving board to finish in 10th-place. He will compete in the three-meter diving on Saturday.
For the women, sophomore Emma Cole placed 16th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:34.29.
Finals in four relays took place in today's second day of competition, and Olivet placed fifth in all fourth. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Howard, freshmen Kody Garcia and Derek Melinsky and junior Zak Gray had a time of 1:33.98. The 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of freshmen Sabrina Butler, Delaney Graham and Taylor Tibbetts, and senior Megan Dossey touched the wall in 1:43.19.
Melinsky, Gray, Howard and freshman Bryan Plesner clocked-in at 3:50.94 in the 400-yard medley relay. Cole, sophomore Nicole Zerfas, Tibbetts and Graham finished the 400-yard medley relay in 4:20.38.
Action from the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids continues tomorrow morning with preliminaries at 10 a.m., and finals at 5:30 p.m.
