Swimming & diving teams sweep Alma, 92-44 and 89-85
The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept dual meets from Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Alma College this morning at McClure Natatorium in Alma.
ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept dual meets from Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Alma College this morning at McClure Natatorium in Alma. The women's team slipped past the Scots, 89-85, while the men's team won 92-44.
For the women, senior Megan Dossey was the lone triple winner. She won the 200-yard (2:04.22) and 500-yard (5:77.07) freestyle events. She teamed with freshmen Sabrina Butler, Delaney Graham and Taylor Tibbetts to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:52.20.
Butler claimed a first-place time of 27.24 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle. Tibbetts took first-place in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:20.20.
For the men, senior Taylor Howard and freshman Derek Melinsky were triple winners. Howardwas the first to touch the wall in the 100-yard freestyle (:50.56) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.86). Melinsky scored first-place points in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.23) and 200-yard backstroke (2:16.01). This duo joined with freshman Kody Garcia and junior Zak Gray for a winning time of 1:54.91 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Freshman Bryan Plesner finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.72. JuniorBryce Prudden had the best scores in the diving competitions, as he recorded 250.15 points on the one-meter board and 222.80 points on the three-meter board.
Olivet is off until Saturday, Jan. 30, when it hosts Albion College and College of Wooster (Ohio) for a double dual meet inside the Upton Center Pool, starting at 2 p.m.
