Swimming & diving teams lose to Hope
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams were defeated by Hope College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meets today at the Dow Center in Holland.
HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams were defeated by Hope College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meets today at the Dow Center in Holland. The women's team lost 146-76 and the men fell to the Flying Dutchmen, 123-82.
For the men, freshman Derek Melinsky led a 1-2 Comet finish in the 100-yard backstroke. His time was 1:01.35, followed by freshman Ethan Drouillard was close behind at 1:01.50. Freshman Kody Garcia posted the second-fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle at 54.68 seconds. Freshman Bryan Plesner had a season-best time of 5:17.47 in the 500-yard freestyle.
For the women, sophomore Nicole Zerfas tied for the second-quickest time in the 50-yard breaststroke at 36.79 seconds. Senior Megan Dossey touched the wall second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:29.30. She also had the third-fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.58 seconds.
The Comets are now idle until Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4-5, when they compete at the Carthage (Wis.) College Winter Classic. Preliminaries are each day at 9 a.m., followed by finals each night at 5 p.m.
