Swimming & diving: Comets lose to Alma
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams lost Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meets to Alma College today at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams lost Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meets to Alma College today at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet. The men's team fell, 88-82, while the women's team were defeated by a 132-41 score.
Senior Jazmin Johnson was a double winner for the Comets, as she touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle (:54.86) and 200-yard freestyle (2:03.40). Senior Megan Dossey placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.14) and 200-yard backstroke (2:29.58). Freshman Nicole Zerfaswas second in 200-yard breaststroke (2:49.62).
Sophomore Bryce Prudden swept the diving events for the Olivet men, scoring 206.40 points on the one-meter and 217.96 points on the three-meter. Junior Taylor Howard finished in first-place in the 200-yard breaststroke. His time of 2:16.76 was almost 16 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Sophomore Trey Jennings won the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.85) and finished second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:31.56).
Sophomore Derek Beslock had a pair of runner-up finishes in the sprint freestyle events, 23.20 seconds in the 50 and 51.74 seconds in the 100. The 400-yard medley quartet of Jennings, Howard, junior Townsend Montgomery and Beslock clocked-in with a first-place time of 3:51.55.
Olivet now prepares for a busy week. Next Friday, the Comets are on the road for a dual meet against Defiance (Ohio) College at 6 p.m. and on Saturday afternoon, Hillsdale College and Manchester (Ind.) University visit the Upton Center Pool for a 1 p.m. meet.
