Swimming & diving: Olivet falls to Hope
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams opened the home portion of their schedule with Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meet losses to Hope College.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened the home portion of their schedule with Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meet losses to Hope College. The men fell to Hope, 121-53, while the women lost, 137-52.
The men's team had several notable performances. Junior Taylor Howard won the 100-yard breastroke in 1:03.50 and placed second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:05.62. Sophomore Trey Jennings took first-place in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:11.55 and second-place in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.37.
Sophomore Derek Beslock placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in a season-time of 52.22 seconds. Sophomore Zach Gray completed the 100-yard freestyle in a lifetime best time 59.89 seconds. Sophomore Bryce Prudden scored 211.25 points to finish in second-place on the one-meter diving board.
For the women's team, senior Jazmin Johnson won two individual events, stopping the clock first in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.76 seconds and the 200-yard freestyle in 2:03.00. She used a 30.30 second split on the last lap of the 200 free to secure a come-from-behind win.
Junior Megan Dossey completed the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 1:09.92. Freshman Emma Cole finished in second-place in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:43.94.
Olivet travels to Wooster, Ohio, for a double dual meet next Saturday, Nov. 8, against the College of Wooster and Hiram (Ohio) College. The meet has a 1 p.m. start time.
