Women’s soccer team defeats Alma, 3-1
Playing in a heavy rain shower for the duration of the game, the Olivet College women’s soccer team defeated Alma College, 3-1, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The game was called with 5:44 left in the second half when the referees deemed the field unplayable due to the standing water.

OLIVET, Mich. – Playing in a heavy rain shower for the duration of the game, the Olivet College women's soccer team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College, 3-1, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The game was called with 5:44 left in the second half when the referees deemed the field unplayable due to the standing water.

- The Comets netted their first goal at the 5:08 mark of the opening half. Junior Abby Radcliffe slotted the ball into the 6-yard box and to the feet of sophomore Samantha Torres who sent a shot into the goal.
- The Scots wasted no time in leveling score as they found the back of the net 19 seconds later.
- Olivet scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 12th minute. Senior Emma Essen's initial shot stopped but not controlled by the keeper. Essen gathered the rebound and buried the ball into the goal.
- The score stayed 1-0 at halftime.
- Alma looked to score the equalizer early in the second half, but sophomore keeper Samantha Gifford was able to punch the ball over the top of the goal.
- The Comets stretched their lead to 3-1 in the 67th minute. Junior Sarah Feldpausch played the ball from the middle of the field to the left flank to Essen. Essen dribbled the ball into the box before sending a shot into the goal at the near post.
- The Scots placed one more shot on-frame before the ref whistled the end of the game in the 85th minute.
- Olivet finished the game with 14 total shots.
- Essen recorded seven shots, including five on-goal.
- Torres had two shots.
- Gifford played the 84 minutes and 16 seconds in goal, and collected four saves.
- Meghan Pfile scored the goal.
- Lexi Moyer recorded three of Alma's six shots.
- Melissa Gal tallied two shots.
- Ally Wentworth was the losing keeper after allowing all three goals, while making five saves.
- The Comets are on the road for four straight games. The first one is Saturday against Albion College at 11 a.m.
