Olivet College women’s soccer team ranked No. 6
The Olivet College women’s soccer team is No. 6 in the most recent NCAA Division III Central Regional Rankings, released Oct. 25. It is believed to be the first time in school history that the Comets are included in these rankings.
INDIANANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Olivet College women's soccer team is No. 6 in the most recent NCAA Division III Central Region Rankings, released Oct. 25. It is believed to be the first time in school history that the Comets are included in these rankings.
These rankings are used by the NCAA committee to determine the field of 64 teams which will compete in the NCAA Division III Championships next month. The Central regional committee ranks the Top 6 teams in the region that includes schools in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and two members of the University Athletic Association which are located in the region. The NCAA will release regional rankings two more times before the field for the championships is announced.
This week's top six teams are 1. University of Chicago (Ill.), 2. Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.), 3. Illinois Wesleyan University, 4. Wheaton (Ill.) College, 5. Hope College and 6. Olivet.
The Comets currently have a 12-5 overall record and are in sole possession of second-place in the MIAA standings with a 10-4 record. The 12 wins are the third-most in school history for a season, while the 10 league wins are the most.
Olivet hosts Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and concludes its regular season next Monday, Oct. 30 with a 4 p.m. home game against Calvin College. The Comets have secured a spot in the MIAA Tournament. If Olivet can hold onto second-place in the standings, it would host a semifinal game.
