FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College senior forward Isabelle Leon has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Offensive Player of the Week for women's soccer. Leon is receiving the award for the second time this season and the fifth time in her career.
With wins over Albion and Adrian, Leon played a large role in avenging losses from earlier this season. She had a hat trick and an assist in a 4-0 victory at Albion and followed that performance with a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win at home against Adrian. For the week, Leon's 10 points were the most by a MIAA player. In addition, the two victories moved Olivet into sole possession of second-place in the MIAA standings. For the season, Leon has 16 goals and 10 assists for 42 points. The 42 points is the fourth-most in school for a season, while the 10 assists ties for the third-most and 16 goals ties for the sixth-most.
"Izzy helped us get two major wins last week and her play in both games was crucial," said Olivet head coach Sarah Maracani. "Her three goals and assist at Albion were incredible. Her goal and assist in the Adrian game were also huge. I could not be more proud of her and this award is very well deserved!"
The Comets (12-5, 10-4 MIAA) return to the pitch Saturday when they host Kalamazoo College at 2:30 p.m. Olivet defeated the Hornets, 3-2, in the first meeting Sept. 26 at Mackenzie Field in Kalamazoo.
