Women’s soccer team loses to Hope, 4-0, for first loss of season
In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Olivet College women’s soccer team fell to Hope College, 4-0, today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Olivet College women's soccer team fell to Hope College, 4-0, today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Flying Dutch netted two goals in each half.
- The first goal came 10 minutes into the game on a chip shot over the goalkeeper's head.
- The second goal was scored just under two minutes before halftime on a header off a corner kick.
- The third goal came eight minutes and 33 seconds into the second half on a free kick from around 30 yards out.
- The final goal was in the 76th minute when the Hope player sent a shot into the goal at the far post.
- Despite the loss, the Comets had several great scoring opportunities.
- Junior Emma Essen had a pair of shots in the first seven minutes of the game turned aside by the keeper
- Later in the opening half, senior Isabelle Leon sent two shots toward the goal but were stopped.
- Olivet's best scoring chance in the second half came with five minutes left. Senior Emily Reinecke served the ball into the box, where Leon got a foot onto the ball and sent a short pass to junior Kaitlin Irish whose shot from close range was saved by the keeper.
FOR THE COMETS
- The Comets recorded 10 shots in the game, with eight being placed on-frame.
- Leon topped the team with four shots, while Essen had two.
- Freshman Brooklyn Holley played all 90 minutes in goal and collected 12 saves.
FOR THE FLYING DUTCH
- Rachael Braginton, Erin Brophy, Grace Bubin and Kristen Marsman scored the goals, while Brophy and Allie Wittenbach each had one assist.
- Braginton and Rylie Dalton finished with five shots apiece.
- Jordanne Ellingboe made eight saves in goal.
