FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College freshman Brooklyn Holley has been tabbed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week for women's soccer.
The starting goalkeeper, Holley played a key role in helping the Comets open the season with two wins. In a 2-1 victory over Franklin (Ind.) College, she made eight saves while facing 18 total shots. The next day, Holley collected 10 saves on 18 more shots in a 2-0 shutout win over Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology.
"Brooklyn played extremely well this weekend," said Olivet head women's soccer coach Sarah Maracani. "She is vocal and aggressive and you would not know she is a freshman goalkeeper after watching her play this weekend. Our backline feels confident with her behind them which allows them to play with less pressure. You ask your goalkeeper to help your team stay in each game, and that is exactly what she did to help us win those two games."
Olivet begins MIAA play tomorrow night when it makes the trip to play Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at 7 p.m.
