FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College women's soccer players – junior Isabelle Leon and freshman Ashley Romanowski – have earned 2016 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors. Leon is a first-team pick for a second straight season, while Romanowski is a second-team selection. All-MIAA honors are voted on by the league coaches and based on the players' statistics in their 16 MIAA contents.
During the 16-game league schedule, Leon started every game at the forward position. She ranked second among all MIAA players in goals (13), points (30), shots (79) and shots on-goal (33). Leon's best game was against Saint Mary's (Ind.) College when she had a hat trick (three goals). She also had five points (two goals and one assist) against Trine (Ind.) University. Over the entire 19-game schedule, Leon led Olivet in scoring with 36 points on 15 goals and six assists. The 15 goals were also the second-most among all MIAA players.
"Isabelle played like an upperclassmen this year," said Olivet head coach Kim McGowan. "She was a continuous scoring threat throughout every match. I was very happy with the improvement from last year, and very excited to see what she can accomplish next fall."
Despite missing four league games due to an injury, Romanowski still ranked in the top ten in goals (eighth, 8), points (tied for fifth, 5) and shots (tied for third, 52). Her best game was a seven-point (three goals and one performance) against Saint Mary's. In 15 total games, Romanowski had 12 goals and five assists for 29 points.
"As a freshman, Ashley had a huge influence on our offensive efforts this year," said McGowan. "She started the season off strong, but unfortunately had to sit out a couple games towards the end of the year due to injury. Ashley has great potential ahead of her at Olivet College and as a Comet."
