OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Calvin College, 1-0, on Senior Day at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
Although it was cold and rainy, Olivet was ready to use this to its full advantage. The Comets came out possessing and looking for open passes in order to find shots. The first half it was an even battle for shots. The Knights came out on top with a 7-3 shot total but key players like senior center backs Jeanette Fisher and Amber Hamad, and goalkeeper Deanna Zolnoski were keeping Olivet in the game. At the end of the first half the score was 0-0 which gave the Comets more motivation to come out strong in the second.
The Comets came out strong in the second half. With possession being in their favor for almost all of the half, the chances began to open up more. In the 78th minute of play, Olivet found the ball bouncing back and forth in its 18-yard box. Unable to clear the ball, a Calvin player came jumping into the air and put the only goal of the game away. Although the Comets fought hard for an equalizer, they were unable to find it.
Zolnoski played all 90 minutes in goal for the Comets and ended with a total of eight saves.
Olivet closes out its regular season schedule next Monday night with a 7 p.m. game at Kalamazoo College.
