OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team blanked Trine (Ind.) University, 4-0, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
Although the Comets started off a bit slow, they soon found possession to be massively in their favor. By finding feet, Olivet was able to string passes together to create opportunities up top. The Comets' first goal of the game came at the 19th minute mark when the ball was bobbled around the 18-yard box but knocked back in by sophomore Miranda Quick and tapped into the net by senior Lauren Vanderhoff. Multiple shots were just off the mark in the first half, as Olivet could not find the back of the net again but led the half in shots, 15-1.
The second half started off a lot like the first half for the Comets. After Olivet fell in its rhythm with possession, success was found. The Comets' first goal of the half came from sophomore Isabelle Leon on a one-on-one with Trine's keeper in the 59th minute.
Olivet did not let up here though, as it continued to possess around the Thunder. Quick used a quick touch in and a crossing pass into the box found the head of freshman Lydia Vargas at the 64th minute mark to put the Comets up 3-0.
With subs and fresh legs getting into the game, Olivet had a new look up top. Sophomore Sydney Reichenbaugh came off the bench for the Comets and quickly found the feet of Leon who took a touch in and ripped the net with the final goal of game. The Comets had a 10-1 advantage over the Thunder in shots during the second half.
Senior Deanna Zolnoski played all 90 minutes in goal for the Comets for her eighth shutout of the season.
Olivet makes the short trip to play Albion College next Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 4 p.m.
