OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team defeated the Adrian College Bulldogs, 1-0, in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
Olivet came out in the first half battling for possession with Adrian. Sophomores Emily Reinecke and Madeline Maxwell along with freshman Emma Essen pushed for shots up top with no luck in the first half for the Comets. Olivet had a total of seven shots compared to the Bulldogs' five in the first half.
The second half opened up new opportunities for the Comets. With wings finding run on the inside, pressure remaining high, and the defense staying strong Olivet found more options and opportunities. Although there were many chances, the goal came in the 74th minute when senior Jordyn Mackool found the feet of sophomore Isabelle Leon who slotted a shot in past the goalkeeper.
Senior Deanna Zolnoski had her third shutout of the season with a total of three saves.
The Comets host Saint Mary's (Ind.) College Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
