Women’s soccer: Olivet closes out 2014 season with 0-0 tie at Albion
The Olivet College women’s soccer team closed the door on the 2014 season with a 0-0 double overtime draw against Albion College today at Alumni Field in Albion.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team closed the door on the 2014 season with a 0-0 double overtime draw against Albion College today at Alumni Field in Albion.
Neither team was able to score a goal in the first half. Olivet had several great scoring opportunities. In the 31st minute, freshman Isabelle Leon's shot hit off the post, and in the 39th minute, her shot was saved by the keeper. The Comets other scoring chance came in the 44th minute, senior Nicole Borek's shot clanged off the cross bar.
All three Olivet shots – one each for Borek, sophomore Amber Hamad and freshman Emily Reinecke – in the second half were stopped by the goalie. Borek provided the Comets' scoring opportunity in the first overtime period but her shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
Olivet turned up the offensive pressure in the second overtime period. In the second minute of the extra period, Reinecke had her shot sail high of the net. Two minutes later, Leon took a shot, which went wide right of the goal.
The Comets finished the game with 11 shots to nine for the Britons, with both teams placing five on-goal. Albion had two corner kicks to one for Olivet. Borek and Leon topped the Comets with three shots apiece. Making only her second start of the season in goal, sophomore Kori Ramirez collected five saves.
NOTES: Leon led the Olivet in scoring during the 2014 season with 26 points (10 goals and six assists). Reinecke was next with 14 points (five goals and four assists). For the season, the Comets had 31 goals and 37 assists for 99 points.
